Titans Celebrate Life

By: Izabela Pitula

On Thursday, April 23rd, the Titans for Life club at Holy Trinity hosted a “Culture of Life” Mass as well as a baby shower for teenage moms from Shifra Home. We were honored to have Father Kuzma as our guest speaker and have him to celebrate the Holy Eucharist with us.

When the whole Titan family gathered in the gym, Father Kuzma gave an inspiring homily and a short story of how he became a priest through many obstacles.

His homily was so inspiring that even after the Mass, everyone was still talking about it. Father told the crowd that we will always find ourselves in difficult times especially at our age, when everything is so overwhelming and the pressure is high above our comfortable level. He compared our lives to a bicycle. He said that life is like riding a bicycle, in order to keep your balance, you must keep going.

Our honorary guest speaker also told the students, teachers and guests about his road to the priesthood. He said that it was tough for him to sacrifice his life, but now looking back he says that it was the best decision he ever made. Father Kuzma sacrificed a lot of things in order for him to become a priest. He said no to dating, drugs and alcohol, childhood dream of becoming a rockstar, etc. Father Kuzma also gave an example of a very well known person around the world who sacrificed her life to help others in need. Her name is Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Before ending his first ever mass at Holy Trinity, he said that every sacrifice has a fruitful reward and every failure has a second chance; we only have to be strong by God’s grace to persevere in the tests of life.

During period three, there were many tables set up in the atrium by Pro-Life organizations. During their lunch, staff and students had the opportunity to learn about how abortion is wrong and how life is a blessing.

During period four, the Titans for Life club held their annual “Baby Shower” for young women in Shifra Home. On Thursday, four teenage moms joined us in the theatre, bringing with them their daughters. One of the four girls was due in June, but she also came and celebrated life with us.

It was a time filled with fun games, opportunity to hold the babies, eat the sweets prepared by Trinity’s own “Cooking for Cause” club as well as to interact with one another in this beautiful celebration. The young moms and mom-to-be received many wonderful and useful gifts donated by Madame Silvestri, students, teachers, and parents.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the cause. Remember that the Titans For Life club meets every Tuesday in the library after school. Come join us; let's celebrate life!
